How to generate Lorem Ipsum text

1. Pick a Type: Paragraphs for body blocks, Sentences for captions and cards, or Words for labels and chips.
2. Drag the Quantity slider to any value from 1 to 100 — the output updates the instant you change it.
3. Choose Plain Text for raw copy, or HTML Format to wrap each paragraph in a clean <p> tag.

What is Lorem Ipsum and where does it come from?

Lorem Ipsum is not random gibberish. It is deliberately corrupted Latin taken from sections 1.10.32–1.10.33 of Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum ("On the Ends of Good and Evil"), written in 45 BC. Words were added, removed, and altered until the passage reads like English-shaped nonsense. The opening "Lorem ipsum" is itself a truncation of dolorem ipsum — "pain itself."

The origin was traced by Richard McClintock, a Latin scholar at Hampden–Sydney College, who chased down the rare word consectetur and matched it to a 1914 Loeb Classical Library edition of Cicero translated by H. Rackham. On that edition the Latin line breaks mid-word as ...do- at the foot of one page and resumes with lorem ipsum on the next — which is exactly how the placeholder got its truncated first two words.

This generator does not store the full passage. It draws from a fixed 70-word vocabulary (lorem, ipsum, dolor, sit, amet, consectetur, adipiscing, elit…) and assembles random sentences of 8–15 words grouped into paragraphs of 5–8 sentences. Because the standard text is in the public domain, you can use the output in any personal or commercial project without attribution.

When to use dummy text — and when real content matters

Lorem Ipsum is right for wireframes, typographic scale tests, and client mockups, where readable copy would distract from the layout. It is the wrong choice for usability tests, accessibility audits, and final UI copy. Fake Latin hides real line lengths, reading order, and contrast issues, so problems get baked in before anyone catches them. The W3C WCAG guidelines require a text contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text — a check you can only do meaningfully against the content users will actually read.
